Zig Zag Brewery

Returning to The Seven Valleys Soon

You will not just be tasting one of the finest beers in NSW, but also tasting a little bit of history. Since 1888, there has been beer crafted onsite by our master brewers. From Jackass Jones in 1897 right through to today’s Josh Udell, the beer has flowed out of the brewery and been enjoyed by thousands across NSW.

It’s no surprise that the most important ingredient in any beer is water. And that’s where the brewery is situated - built on the site of an incredibly pure rock-filtered spring with a steady flow of water. Adding the best hops, malts, and yeasts creates probably the best beer you’ll ever taste (we know, we’re biased).

We are proud to win an award at the Melbourne Royal International beer festival for our first ever brew, the IPA. Even more please the Steam Pale Ale and the Seven Valleys IPA have now picked up an award each from the Sydney Royals too. Then a week ago out Stout joins the awarding ranks from the Independent Brewers Association Indie awards. This however is the minimum standard set and we continue to work hard to enter more of our brews to ensure the quality of beer is top notch.

Our Core Range

This beautifully crafted Pale Ale is in recognition of Lithgow’s Zig Zag Steam Railway, opened in the 1860s and still running today. With a malty flavour, and golden amber colour, we welcome you to get ‘all aboard!’ and enjoy our beer.

We’re proud to be within the Seven Valleys, 4500 square kilometres of inspiring natural beauty and one of countless attractions to explore and discover. You’re tasting not just a bit of history, but an IPA made using the purest water from our natural spring.

We’ve dedicated this refreshing lager, made from the same spring water to Jack A S Jones, affectionately known as Jackass Jones who successfully ran the Lithgow Zig Zag Brewery (then named Corbett’s Brewery) through the first Golden Age of the brewery from 1897 to 1928.

The Lost City, just north of Lithgow, is a rugged, untouched wilderness that resembles an old lost civilisation. This is our inspiration for a hazy beer, equally untouched by the brewing process, giving it the full flavour and aroma from its natural ingredients.

In 1950, Lithgow Zig Zag Brewery’s ‘Ram’s Head Stout’, was awarded first prize in the “British Empire Bottled Stout” class at a brewer’s exhibition in London. We have used this as inspiration to reimagine what a modern Stout should taste like.

On 25th July 1888, the Lithgow Brewery, called ‘Corbett and Goodare’ was awarded its first brewing licence. To celebrate Harry Corbett’s and Alfred Goodare’s vision in 1888, we’ve created a mid-strength session pale ale to savour and enjoy today.
